Voice

Pronunciation voice

On iPhone, leave this page open briefly while Safari loads voices. If playback is silent, check Silent Mode and install a Chinese voice in Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices.

Speech rate

0.90× — slow it down while you are learning the sounds.

How close counts as correct

0.85 — lower is more forgiving.

Show traditional characters during practice

Off means pinyin and audio only. Reading is never tested either way.

Show the self-check option during speaking practice

Useful when Safari's recognition service returns no transcript. Self-check asks you to compare your attempt with the model, then mark it correct or retry.

Safari versions differ in Mandarin recognition support. During practice, the page tells you when it is listening, shows the transcript it receives, and reports when Safari returns no usable speech.

Privacy

Your progress lives in this browser's local storage and is never uploaded. When you tap the microphone, the audio is processed by your browser's own speech service — that is Google's or Apple's, not ours. This site receives only the text your browser transcribes, and only to score your pronunciation.
